Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. At the age of nine years old, the family of Decker resided in Louisiana and she was the winner of an annual regional talent competition with the song Patsy Montana's "I Want to Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker had relocated to Georgia when she was 15. She began writing songs, and was making frequent trips to Nashville. In search of an agreement, Decker visited record labels and music publishers. Her songs were being sold to record companies and other artists through a Big Yellow Dog Records agent in her teens. When Mercury Records president David Massey was introduced to Decker's work, he passed them along to L.A. Reid head of the affiliated Island/Def Jam label group and Reid has signed her to a record deal. The first self-titled effort under the moniker Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James was reasonably successful and included Wanted a single that brushed in the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker, who had considered herself to be a country artist in the past was surprised that her album wasn't promoted and produced with a focus on a mainstream audience. Decker battled against the label for greater control over her music following two previous singles failed. The album she released next, Boys in the Summer was a more traditional album. Decker's album was titled Daughter of a Gypsy (or Sweet American Dreams), was canceled by Mercury following two singles that failed to chart on the chart for country.
